In Lake County no one gets cabin fever. There is fun, enjoyment, contentment and something to do every month of the year . Lake County's western hospitality is year around and everything can be enjoyed from the comfort of modern motels and fine restaurants, or from the rugged isolation of a mountain camp in Oregon's Outback.

WINTER SPORTS Warner Canyon Ski Area, 10 miles north east of Lakeview, boasts: a ski lodge; warm wood stove; great food; a normal average skii season of 17 weeks; shortest lift lines in the west; and many miles of cross country and marked snowmobile trails with easy access.

Biking ... The Fremont Trail systems provide challenging scenic mountain bike trails in the Fremont National Forest. For cyclists, the numerous roads and trails throughout Lake County are a peddler's paradise

CAMPING . . .Federal, State and private improved parks for restful camping. Lots of wide open spaces for the camper or backpacker.

FISHING . . . 500 miles of secluded fishing streams and placid lakes. Rainbow, Crappie, Perch, Bass, Catfish and more!

2008 Hang Gliding Nationals August 16-23, 2008 . . . Outstanding thermals and mountains for perfect launching. Proclaimed to be the Hang Gliding Capital of the West Join us for the annual Festival of Free Flight, a favorite for paraglider and hang glider pilots alike! You can even make arrangements to hitch a ride!

ROCK HUNTING . . . Thunder Eggs, Hart Mountain Nodules, Fire Opal, Sunstones, (The Oregon State Gemstone) and Petrified Wood. Try your hand at prospecting.

SWIMMING . . . Lakeview's community pool is open all summer to the public, or cool off in the beautiful Chewaucan River at Paisley or in Ana Reservoir near Summer Lake. There are many streams to choose from also.

WILDLIFE VIEWING . . . Hart Mountain, summer Lake Wildlife Area, Warner Wetlands and almost everywhere provides opportunities to view swans, eagles, raptors, sandhill cranes, pelicans, deer, antelope, big horn sheep, elk and more.

WILD GAME HUNTING . . . Over 2500 mule deer are harvested each year and more than 7500 waterfowl each year. Dove, quail, chucker, pheasant, ducks & geese abound. We have quail-crossings in town! Consult the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife for license information.

HART MOUNTAIN NATIONAL ANTELOPE REFUGE . . . 270,000 acre wildlife haven and home of a herd of prong horned antelope. These graceful animals once almost extinct, can be seen almost any time of day. California Bighorn sheep can be observed also.

SOUTHERN OREGON SPORTS AUTHORITY is a non-profit organization promoting the region's many sports and recreation activities and events.

OREGON OUTBACK NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY . . . From the junction of Highway 97 and Highway 31 south of LaPine, to the Oregon/California state line, enjoy 171 miles of scenic, natural recreational and archaeological features. This is one of the best routes in the Great Basin Region for viewing all the diversity in a 3 to 4 hour drive.
